Tested and working

⌨️ Click anywhere on this page, then press every key on your keyboard — each one turns green as it's detected. A key that never turns green when pressed may be unresponsive.

About This Tool

This tool shows a full on-screen keyboard layout and highlights each key as you press it — green once detected, blue while actively held down. It's a quick way to check every key on a physical keyboard actually registers, useful for spotting a dead or intermittent key after a spill, heavy use, or before buying a used keyboard. A progress tracker shows how many of the keyboard's keys you've tested so far, and the last key pressed (with its exact key code) is shown at the top for reference.

Common Use Cases

  • Checking a laptop or external keyboard for dead or unresponsive keys
  • Testing a keyboard after a liquid spill or heavy use
  • Verifying all keys work before buying a used keyboard
  • Diagnosing intermittent key issues (a key that sometimes doesn't register)

Frequently Asked Questions

Why isn't a key I pressed highlighting?

Make sure you've clicked on the page first so it has keyboard focus. If a specific key still doesn't register, that may indicate a hardware issue with that key.

Does this test key rollover or anti-ghosting?

This tool detects individual key presses reliably, but browsers can limit how many simultaneous key presses are reported at once (a browser-level restriction, not something this tool controls) — it's not a substitute for dedicated N-key rollover testing software.

Is anything I type recorded or sent anywhere?

No. Key presses are only used to update the on-screen display in your browser — nothing is logged, stored, or transmitted.
